Sweeping branches and sun-drenched leaves

From my photo journal...

I loved those branches sweeping down across the frame. It seemed like the sunlight was cascading down them.

But now it’s the sun-drenched leaves in the background that steal the show for me.

What a truly magical place to be. Such gorgeous light and scenery.

This was a Saturday morning bike ride in August. It can take hours to do a circuit on a day like this. The only thing that makes a proper bike ride possible is when my iPhone battery runs out!

A quieter spot

A gorgeous day that brought out the crowds to the beach. The stillness of this scene belies the activity of our day bathing, building sandcastles, queuing for ice-cream and crabbing off the harbour wall.  The slight ripple is nice. I like how it catches the light and paints the wiggly reflection of the mast.  And the clouds add interest to a beautiful sky. Everything looks good and serene and tranquil.  I preferred it here, away from the hustle and bustle of the seafront and arcades. Light and underlighting

It was a stunning morning with a lovely warmth from the rising sun as it illuminated the leaves. I loved the light hitting the underside of those high branches.  A morning like this takes some beating.  I carried on for another hour or so following various tracks through the forest, deciding on a whim which route to take at each junction. A rare occasion to feel so relaxed and free to explore.  Wonderful.  ---  Here again slightly cropped: ---  Here are the same two shots in black and white. Standing at ease in the flat light

Something about this tree stopped me scrolling as I reviewed my photos. Perhaps the flat light allows it to take centre stage. I love the elegant swoop of its lead stem.  Sunlight and shadows would add drama here. But this image has a calming effect on me. It’s not exciting but it is restful.
