Reaching for the sun

Not long now until this great old oak tree buds into life once again. We’re in mid April and I’m wandering along the Beaulieu Road out of Lyndhurst. Just look at this beautiful dawn. 

I like the scraggy stems of grass roughing up the bank. And the warming glow on the horizon. And the gentle gradient of blue in the sky. And the low distant clouds, warming up nicely in the sun. 

You can see how those branches have had freedom to reach for the sun each day; all growing together and contributing with a story of their own. But are some in danger of overreaching? I wonder. 

I also like the contrast of the younger tree in the background – speaking to me of generations and the circle of life in some way. It feels safe next to this great oak. And it’s leaning in a similar way.
