Summer's in its late stages

From my photo journal...

A lot of this image is in the dark. But the light on the ground and the tree in the background lifts it nicely, I think.

Summer is entering its late stages. It’s a beautiful early morning. The sun’s getting a bit lower these days offering a different quality of light.

The forest looks beautiful, clothed in its many shades of green. Vibrant in the sun. Complemented by the rich blue sky.

I’m out here on my bike with it all to myself. I think I’ll just keep on cycling…

A quieter spot

A gorgeous day that brought out the crowds to the beach. The stillness of this scene belies the activity of our day bathing, building sandcastles, queuing for ice-cream and crabbing off the harbour wall.  The slight ripple is nice. I like how it catches the light and paints the wiggly reflection of the mast.  And the clouds add interest to a beautiful sky. Everything looks good and serene and tranquil.  I preferred it here, away from the hustle and bustle of the seafront and arcades. Light and underlighting

It was a stunning morning with a lovely warmth from the rising sun as it illuminated the leaves. I loved the light hitting the underside of those high branches.  A morning like this takes some beating.  I carried on for another hour or so following various tracks through the forest, deciding on a whim which route to take at each junction. A rare occasion to feel so relaxed and free to explore.  Wonderful.  ---  Here again slightly cropped: ---  Here are the same two shots in black and white. Standing at ease in the flat light

Something about this tree stopped me scrolling as I reviewed my photos. Perhaps the flat light allows it to take centre stage. I love the elegant swoop of its lead stem.  Sunlight and shadows would add drama here. But this image has a calming effect on me. It’s not exciting but it is restful.
