Anchoring light

Amazing the difference a bit of sun makes. Without it, this photo would lack depth and interest.

That strip of light along the ground seems to anchor the shot. And the lightness in the background offers balance to the dark and imposing tree in front of us. I love the varying degrees of contrast on the leaves.

Shame about the blur! (Perhaps it works better in black and white below? Then again...)

It was good to get out of the office for half an hour. I’d been tinkering with the idea all morning while working at my desk, but thinking I should probably crack on instead. As I looked out the window while filling the kettle for a cup of tea, my mind was made up – I was out in the forest in minutes.

The trees didn’t seem to mind. They probably thought, ‘Here he is again!’ They know I admire them. I love wandering around this place.

Snapped on my old iPhone 6s during a stunning Autumn lunch break at Clay Hill, Lyndhurst, New Forest. October 2022.
