Receiving the light

Low sunlight lights up a stem of fern with a transformative effect amidst the death and decay of Autumn

What caught my eye here was how the low sun caught this stalk of fern.

We’d had some glorious days in the early part of November and I kept noticing lone bits of foliage lit up like this. The contrast was stark with other leafage looking lifeless in the shade.

As I look again, I’m transfixed by the effect – not just by this moment but in what it might represent, the possibility of transformation beyond my own doing.

All I have to do is receive the light when it comes.

The warmth is obviously lost and now I notice the detritus in the foreground more, which is not necessarily a good thing!

But the fern still gleams in the sunshine – which is also creating a lovely effect on the trees in the background. It speaks to me more about the death and decay in the scene while the light prevails and life goes on.
